Are you linked?

Posted By Susan Russel, Friday, June 28, 2013

Helping members connect to each other and HP resources was our goal at HP Discover in Las Vegas, June 11-13, 2013. If you didn’t make it to the conference, we hope you’ll consider the same opportunities to get linked now.

Link to Local Chapters and Special Interest Groups

Over 100 HP Software customers and partners volunteer their time to lead local chapters and worldwide virtual special interest groups (SIG). Leaders from around the world gathered at HP Discover to represent their groups and discuss the latest HP Software developments and game-changing technologies.

There are 74 local chapters in 26 countries and 13 virtual SIGs. Each chapter and SIG has its own personality and focus. Members of local chapters meet face to face to share best practices, tips, and tricks; members of SIGs meet online and can participate in group blogs and webinars. Locate your chapter and SIGs of choice and select the "Join group” icon which will appear at the top of the group page if you aren’t already linked.

Don’t see a local chapter near you or a particular SIG? Contact us to start and lead a new group.

Link to Award Winning Leaders

Karen Semonson, President, Board of Directors, presented the community awards for the Americas region at the HP Discover welcome reception in conjunction with the HP Impact Customer Awards. Get linked to these leaders who are at the forefront of community activity.

Scott Anderson
, Americas Leader of the Year
Iowa Chapter

Mary Kay Petersen
, Americas Champion of the Year
HP Service Management SIG, Oregon Chapter

Todd DeCapua
, Americas Speaker of the Year
Mobile, Agile, and DevOps SIGS;
Delaware & Philadelphia Chapters

I am also happy to report that Brian Pohl (left), Leader of the San Antonio Chapter and Mobile SIG, was presented with the HP Customer Impact award.

Link to HP Experts and Advisors

Vivit teamed up with HP Software’s IT Experts community and Cloud and Automation teams to connect members to HP resources, experts and advisors at HP Discover. This collaboration resulted in constructive two-way communication.

HP’s online IT Experts community is another place you can add your independent voice, exchange ideas, and access HP resources. Use the Vivit avatar to recognize your Vivit membership status.

We thank the IT Experts community and Cloud and Automation teams for their interaction and for supplying many of the great prize drawings for the new HP Slate, Beats, backpacks, and more in the Vivit booth! Here are a few of the lucky members who were linked and won.

Link to the Board of Directors and Staff

Nine outstanding members and thought leaders serve on the Board of Directors. They met face to face for two days prior to HP Discover to discuss the state of the user community and programs to serve members going forward. Many of the dedicated staff attended HP Discover as well. If you didn’t get a chance to meet them in person, feel free to contact them anytime.

We hope to see as many members as possible at future events. Mark your calendar for HP Discover in Barcelona, Spain, December 10-12, 2013. We are already working on our community program. It is our mission to help fellow members tap into the wealth of collective knowledge in Vivit, the trusted, unbiased, and field-tested HP Software user community. If you have any suggestions or requests, please contact us.

2013 Vivit award nominees (Americas region)

Posted By Martijn Stuiver, Chapter & SIG Chair, Vivit Board of Directors, Wednesday, May 29, 2013
Updated: Thursday, May 30, 2013

There are many career-building and growth opportunities within Vivit. The nominated Vivit Leaders below are real live evidence of those who were appreciated by peers for their time, energy, and commitment to make relationships and community events succeed—a proof of growth.

But what does it mean to grow one's career? It often sounds empty, cumbersome, and time consuming. Well we all know that the success of a team or organization always succeeds the growth of people. At least I hope so.

And yes this is a journey of learning. And how do you learn? It does make me think of high school learning programs on dull topics I was not always interested in. Well the learning styles of Kolb show us: experience it, reflect on it, think about and act on it. Or pick your own personal learning style at Bottom line: start experimenting.

These nominees started to invest in this process some time ago. Asking and discussing feedback on hosting their sessions, organizational skills, or presentations. So what I really want to thank this year’s nominees for is showing us what it's all about: growing and learning professionally by experiencing it!

I think this is a great example for us. But keep in mind, "what needs to be instantly perfect, does not get the opportunity to grow.” And that’s just what they pragmatically did.

Also interested in organizing your growth? Please refer to some suggestions:

Paul Peissner is director of Business Development for Collabnet. In addition, he serves the HP Software community as a Vivit Chapter Leader for Silicon Valley/San Jose and for the new DevOps Special Interest Group.
For more than a decade he has built his IT Solutions career with a belief in 2 things...

1) User Communities and the collective wisdom it holds...and willingly shares to help its members solve a problem
2) IT Platform offerings' critical need for an Innovation Network of fast-moving 3rd parties' technologies that have the expertise and resources to solve complex and new problems that the Platform could not address in the short-term.

What drives Paul…
In working with IT customers, system integrators and technology providers, I have been amazed at how quickly people innovate when the "core problem” is presented to the "right person”. I sit in awe of how many "long-standing problems” can be permanently and globally fixed when the "right data and right relationships” can be connected. People have said that I have the "heart of IT development” in mind when I engage with business users and IT Operations teams. I believe DevOps is the effort that will pull all of IT together for organizations of all sizes.

Message from Michael Collins, President of Vivit

Posted By Michael Collins, Thursday, June 30, 2011

Entering the third year of my term on the Vivit Board of Directors, I am very excited by all of the opportunities that we are presented with at this time. Recently appointed by my peers to the President position, I am humbled by the chance to work with such a great group of Board members, chapter leaders, staff, and most importantly, the user community which makes this organization so great.

We recently launched a long awaited Vivit website community which is vibrant, well organized and easy to use. We continue to migrate all of the functionality of the old site and introduce new features so that it makes for a better user experience.

Recently, we held our semiannual face-to-face Board meeting which took place at HP Discover in Las Vegas. The board reviewed overall organizational health and current direction. The stability and health is at the highest point in many years both as an organization and in membership.

We also held a chapter and SIG leader meeting at the conference which provided the perfect opportunity to discuss improving processes, relationships, and tools to serve the entire community even better. We can't thank Vivit chapter and SIG leaders enough for their hard work throughout the year as well as their participation in the Vivit exhibit at HP DISCOVER.

Vivit members also convened for the annual meeting, followed by deep dive round table discussions. We presented the status of the user community in an open forum, Karen Semonson passed the "President” torch to me, and then members shared their knowledge and best-practices on HP Service Management, Functional Testing with BPT/QTP, Performance Testing and Engineering, and Quality Center API.

The Advanced HP Software Implementation Training organized by Jim Murphy, Vice President, was another success. Subject matter experts from the Vivit community provided eight different deep-dive training sessions in the hours leading up to HP DISCOVER.

To top it off, we co-hosted a user community appreciation party for existing and new members. We presented Laura Walker with the 2011 Leader of the Year award for the Americas region.

In my opinion, HP DISCOVER was one of the most exciting events in the past several years. The combination of the various conferences, as well as bringing the hardware and software constituents together, worked out better than I had imagined. Appealing to and surpassing 10,000 attendees was a feat in itself, but the way in which the event was organized, as well as the DISCOVER Zone show floor, lent itself to fantastic collaboration and presentation.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention the phenomenal exclusive musical event. I have no idea how Paul McCartney could be topped, but I am excited to find out next year!

Likely, what I am most excited about is the current state of our local chapters and membership. We have a very active user base which is reflective in the individuals who make up Vivit. The new chapters which have improved the global presence of the organization are key to further success. I am also excited for our next meeting in conjunction with HP DISCOVER in Vienna later this year to see how we build upon the successes of the first part of the year.

Vivit will continue partnering with HP, partners and other user groups while we remain your independent voice of the HP Software User Community, promoting community, education and advocacy. Check out the new website and all is has to offer. Be sure to update your profile
